By the end of the session learners will be able to:

  • State the legislation that applies to handling and control of medicines within care environment
  • Identify the difference between POMs and NON-POMs
  • State who is able to administer medicines to a service user and under what circumstances
  • Describe storage facilities applicable to medicines in the care home
  • Discuss strategies for maintaining correct administration and documentation
  • State actions to take if a service user refuses medication
  • Explain actions to take should an error in administration occur
  • Describe actions taken with medicines of deceased service users or if they leave a care home
